Sanskrit & Tamil Spiritual Names & Meanings

Arjuna

means the white one, bright or clear. Arjuna is a person of clear, inner nature, one whose mind is spotless and clean of all impurities. Such an empty and stainless mind is ready to receive divine wisdom and the highest understanding. In the Rig Veda, the clear, sunny and bright day is referred to as arjunam. Prince Arjuna was a disciple of Sri Krishna. He was a great warrior and a skilled marksman with the bow and arrow. Sri Krishna explained the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita (the Song of God that forms part of the Mahabharata story) to Arjuna after the prince was suffering from indecision and doubt. After being granted understanding of the teachings, Krishna enlightened the warrior prince on yoga, renunciation, dharma and all aspects of the true, spiritual path. Arjuna was a partial incarnation of the King of the Gods, Indra, and the third of the five Pandava brothers who are the central characters of the great Indian epic, the Mahabharata.
