Well, here you have it...photographic proof of the damage done to a previously perfect ear set on a Löwchen (Pistol) when said Löwchen lives the first 3 years of his life with 3 Papillons. ;-}

Hi Friends -
Gee, it seems like only a week ago that I wrote to brag about Pistol's NATCH and ATCH...wait, it was only a week ago!! ;-}...continue the drum roll, please:

Pistola is now an AKC MACH, too!!

Friday, at the Capitol Dog Training Club's trial near Austin, Texas, my lil' boy friend put together his 20th Double Q to become MACH NATCH ATCH TayWil's Aerien Pistil Pete, WV-N, TN-N. With his NADAC NATCH on April 10, his ASCA ATCH on April 11, and his AKC MACH on April 16, Pistola - at the tender age of 3 1/2 - has now earned 3 agility championships. That, folks, is almost unbelievable!

To earn a MACH, a dog has to have 20 Double Qs (that means qualifying with perfect scores in both Excellent Standard and Excellent Jumpers With Weaves on the same day) and at least 750 points. A dog earns one point for each second he is under standard course time in an Excellent class run; the points are doubled if the dog wins first place. By the time Pistol earned his 20th Double Q, he had 1366 points. ;-}

Earning an agility championship is a rare and wonderful thing, but having a multitalented dog capable of earning an agility championship in both NADAC and AKC is rarer still. I am in awe of Pistol's intelligence, biddability and athletic prowess; he's also the "funnest" dog I've ever trained, and the most endearing dog I've ever lived with.

I'm attaching a picture that, while it doesn't show Pistol's speed, does show the look that's always on his face as he runs a course: a big, bright-eyed grin!

Pistol made his obedience debut this weekend at the ASCA (Australian Shepherd Club of America) all-breed obedience trials in Austin, Texas. This was a 3-trials-in-2-days format, so if a dog was able to qualify in all 3 trials, he could earn a title in just one weekend. Pistol not only did that, he won 3 first places in Novice B and with scores of 196.5, 197, and 197.5, High In Trial in all 3 trials!
I'm particularly proud of that 197; it was awarded by one of the lowest-scoring judges in the business who readily admitted, in his High In Trail presentation, that he couldn't even remember the last time he'd given a Novice dog a score above 190!
I was afraid Pistol would find obedience boring compared to agility, but he actually seemed to enjoy it. His attitude throughout was one of "I look really cool doing this, don't I?" ;-}
