The Watcher in the Water

When the company of the ring tried to enter Moria they were attacked by a monster with long tentacles known as the watcher in the water. The ancient creature lived deep under Moria where it had stayed for a long time. It  was waken by a rock thrown into the water by Boromir. Gandalf suspected the worst since it tried to grab Frodo first, did the watcher work for Sauron? The watcher closed the doors to Moria when all of the company of the ring had entered. The Watcher in the Water, as it is called in the book of Mazarbul, is thought to have been a Kraken bred by Morgoth in Utumno.
